Scott Eckern resigns as Artistic Director of The California Musical Theater

Scott Eckern resigned from his position as artistic director of the California Musical Theater. This all happened after various websites blasted Mr. Eckern for his personal contribution of $1000.00 to Prop 8. I mean how could he spend his own money on something he believed in? That's incredible!! He should ask for permission from the gays next time he needs to go to his local CVS since they believe they should control his wallet.

Marc Shaiman the award winning composer of Hairspray, publicly harassed Scott Eckern for his support of proposition 8. Behold his words-

Friends,
This weekend, due to it being public record, I learned that a Mr. Scott Eckerd, Artistic Director, California Musical Theatre (where "HAIRSPRAY" was performed last year, one of our first licensed regional theatre productions) donated $1000 towards YES on Prop. 8

Well, I did what I felt I needed to do, I called him right up. "Hi, it’s Marc Shaiman, co-creator of HAIRSPRAY, would you please call me back?" He did. I asked him how a man who makes his life and living working with (and I assume befriending and loving) gay men and women could possibly think we were less entitled to the same basic rights he enjoys. He basically said "it’s not a personal thing against people, it’s my belief regarding the protection of marriage…etc. (I’m paraphrasing his words, but that is the gist of it).

I then told him the idea that money from his salary that was, in a small way, made from a production of HAIRSPRAY had now been put to use to pass this bigoted Proposition truly hurt and sickened me and that no future project of mine would ever play his theater

Shaiman finished this by encouraging everyone to email or contact Eckern and give him a piece of their mind. Wow this Mr. Shaiman is one loving and kind man!! He must feel so good about himself. I mean who wouldn't feel great about forcing a father of three to quit his job. This no on prop 8 movement is such a feel good movement. It just brings a big smile to my face. I mean never mind that straight Christians that supported prop 8 have probably paid to see one of Shaiman's shows. Does that really matter?? I am sure he is fervently trying to find how many patrons of his shows are supporters of prop 8. I'm sure he is very ready and willing to refund all of the dirty money that has come from supporters of prop 8. I only hope that one day I can be as kind, tolerant and respectful as Mr. Shaiman. You are a class act my friend!!

Mr. Shaiman you can email me to find where you can send my refund for purchasing tickets to Hairspray on Broadway, Las Vegas, the dvd and the soundtrack. I'm sure you don't want any of my dirty yes on Prop 8 supporter money!!!

Prop 8 up for vote November 4, 2008

Comes out of the closet on November 16, 2008

What took you so long? You knew that Prop 8 was coming up for vote and yet for this cause that is so important, you waited until the week before election day? Then you wait another two weeks before deciding it was time to come out of the closet? Way to champion your cause.

F*ck Mormons Sign - Michael Thomas proud owner

The genius and mastermind of this sign is none other than the brilliant Michael Thomas of San Francisco. From the SF article

Michael Thomas: "There are all kinds of assimilationists that are of the opinion that if we're only nicer, then maybe the Mormons and hate groups will come around. That ain't the way it works. Somebody needs to call these guys for what they are doing. I'm angry at their meddling in our affairs. It's particularly ironic about the Mormons doing this, given their past. Polygamy and all that good stuff. Then, they sit there and lay down the gauntlet. Now that they're big and they feel entitled to persecute a group that's weaker."

His sign is full of love and tolerance. It reminds me of a nice spring day filled with roses, sunflowers and fluffy clouds. Michael Thomas is both articulate and compassionate!!

McCarthyism anyone?????

One of the many blacklists circulating on the internet that lists the names and places of employments of Proposition 8 contributors.

I find it almost comical that a group that is asking for tolerance and acceptance are the proud supporters of McCarthy-type witchhunts.

Sundance Boycott???

According to this E online article, it looks like the No on prop 8 supporters are staging a boycott of the Sundance Film Festival, which is ironically known as being a great supporter of Gay and Lesbian films and filmakers.

According to the article-

Earlier this week, John Aravosis, editor of liberal political blog Americablog, posted a story suggesting the state of Utah be boycotted in order to punish the Mormon Church for its rabid support of Prop 8, the ballot initiative that has now banned same-sex marriages in California.

The Robert Redford-founded not-for-profit Sundance is located in Park City, Utah, and relies on the yearly festival as its major fundraiser to support its programs and services. Next year's run in January is expected to draw at least 50,000 people, according to festival rep Brooks Addicott.

"Unfortunately, Sundance is located in a really bad state," Aravosis said.

This makes sense of course to proponents of gay marriage because I mean come on all of Utah has to be Mormon. According to them Utah is a very bad state which has to have like a 100 percent Mormon population. (In reality, it's around 62%) I've heard they chase anyone out of the state that drinks Coke and is not Mormon. I wonder why Robert Redford hasn't been rode out of town on a rail?

Calling for church boycotts

In this SF Chronicle article- opponents of prop 8 have called for boycotts of LDS(Mormon) owned businesses and others who supported prop 8.

Some of the opponents of Prop. 8 have called for a boycott of Mormon-owned businesses and others who gave money to support the ban on same-sex marriage, which is being challenged in court.

People shouldn't be any more surprised that Mormons, Catholics and other religious groups gave money to Prop. 8 than they are that gays and lesbians opened their checkbooks to support it, said Edwin Bender, executive director of the National Institute on Money in State Politics.

This sounds very tolerant to me(can you just smell the sarcasm). Boycott churches that have core basic beliefs that are different than yours. Because everyone should have your views and if they don't -gosh darn it - they should- even if you have to force them. That's what democracy is all about folks!!
